21 Aug Statement by Niall Murphy solicitor, KRW Law, on behalf of the family of Thomas Davidson in response to the Report by the Prisoner Ombudsman
“Our client, the next of kin of Thomas, are disappointed in conclusions drawn by Prisoner Ombudsman which are at odds with the facts known to the family and shared with the Prisoner Ombudsman.
A number of concerns raised were not addressed by Prisoner Ombudsman.
The family specifically repose concerns as to why Mr Davidson was detained in Bann House rather than in a vulnerable prisoners unit, despite the fact that he was on a SPAR process (Supporting People at Risk) and furthermore the family are disappointed that the report does not adequately address why Mr Davidson was removed from the SPAR process on 10 August, before taking his own life, despite a clear and documented attempt on 12 July.
We look forward to working with the Coroner to discover the truth as to how he was allowed to die whilst under the care of the Northern Ireland Prison Service.”
