THE GUILDFORD PUB BOMBINGS 1974: DECISION TO RESUME THE INQUEST

THE GUILDFORD PUB BOMBINGS 1974: DECISION TO RESUME THE INQUEST

KRW LAW LLP represent the family of Ann Hamilton, one of the victims of The Guildford Pub Bombings 1974. KRW also represent Yvonne Tagg, a survivor of the bombings.

The family of Ann Hamilton and Yvonne Tagg request that their privacy is respected at this time.

Last December, the Senior Coroner for Surrey heard argument supporting an application made by KRW LAW LLP to resume the inquest into The Guildford Pub Bombings 1974 which was suspended following the conviction of The Guildford Four.

Submissions were also made by the Surrey Police. The Senior Coroner adjourned the hearing to consider these arguments as to whether he had jurisdiction, power and reason to resume the inquest.

Today the Senior Coroner ruled that the inquest would be resumed. He will direct a Pre-Inquest Review Hearing later this year to deal with matters of disclosure, scope and process.

At this point we need to consider the contents of the Senior Coroner’s Ruling as he made remarks about Interested Persons, the scope of this inquest, whether it would be conducted in compliance with human rights standards and whether it will be before a jury.

The issue of scope will be kept under review as the evidence is adduced.

KRW welcome the ruling and on behalf of our clients welcome the opportunity for an effective ad investigation into The Guildford Pub Bombings 1974.
