Post Office Horizon Redress Scheme

We act for one of the many victims of the Post Office scandal . We are pleased to announce  confirmation of an award of payment of £600000 under the scheme. Our client had  pleaded guilty on legal advice to a number of counts of False Accounting contrary to section 17(1) (a) of the Theft Act ( NI) 1969 in 2005. He received a suspended sentence and a Compensation Order was made against him directing him to pay back money. Money that was never stolen in the first place. For 15 years he had to live with the shame and indignity of having a conviction for crimes he never committed.

Speaking after receiving the news today solicitor Victoria Trainor of KRW said,

“ Our client , who wants to remain anonymous ,feels a massive sense of relief on getting this news. It’s total vindication for him and helps remove the big stain against his name. Like so many of the other victims its been utterly depressing for him to live with this kind of stigma. We don’t know for certain but we believe this might actually be the first confirmation of a payment of this  enhanced sum of compensation available under the Scheme. When the scheme was announced last August we filed the application a few weeks later after which an interim payment of £200000 was made just before the end of the year. We want to put on record our appreciation of the work undertaken by the Redress Scheme personnel.  They moved really quickly to get this application processed seamlessly. Whilst no amount of money will ever compensate him for the ordeal he went through, the pay out is certainly life enhancing and allows him to move on with his life “
