Media, Libel and Reputation Management

We continue to provide solutions to both online and offline reputation management for its existing client base dealing with pre and post publication material involving the traditional media, (print and broadcast), together with the social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. From a “take down” letter to a litigated privacy/defamation action, KRW Law have the capacity and proven expertise to initiate a multi-jurisdictional approach, which has achieved ground-breaking results in protecting clients’ interests over the last two decades.

In the ground-breaking case of CG v Facebook we successfully held Facebook to account as an ‘information society service’ with the Court of Appeal holding Facebook and one of its users liable for “misuse of private information”.  This case has been cited in the Columbia University Global Database of Freedom of Expression and is regularly cited as a defining case in courts across Europe.  Similarly, we were able to secure a judgment on behalf of renowned politician and commentator George Galloway against Google Inc., in respect of manifestly defamatory videos published on YouTube.

KRW Law have provided legal advice in respect of several television and film productions advising on a wide range of delicate and complicated legal issues.

We have acted as script advisors on legal issues for the BBC dramas, Blue Lights, The Fall Starring Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson, Top Boy written by Ronan Bennett for Channel 4 and Netflix, and have also been instructed by several media companies to review scripts to ensure no issues of libel or article 2 right to life injunctions issues arise.

Most recently, we have been commissioned to provide line by line advice on the script to the RTÉ documentary QUINN COUNTRY, a three-part documentary broadcast in March 2022.  The protagonists referenced in the documentary are wealthy litigious industrialists, hence the need for accuracy and impeccable source references.  A book published and released the week following the broadcast, was also being proof-read.

We have acted for and / or provided advice to Paper Owl Films, Indee Productions, Macha Media, Below the Radar, RTE Primetime, BBC Spotlight and Fine Point Films.
