KINCORA: KRW INSTRUCTED FOR CORE PARTICIPANT RICHARD KERR AT HIA INQUIRY

Claire McKeegan Solicitor KRW LAW LLP is now instructed and acting for Core Participant Richard Kerr at the HIA Inquiry Kincora Module.

“Opening statements are ongoing this week at the Banbridge Court House.  We have today heard from the Inquiry that the MOD and Secret Intelligence Services state that there was evidence that members of staff were involved in ‘homosexual’ activity.  These agencies have asserted that there was no record of any ‘paedophile’ activity with the children in Kincora.

We would note that at the time, ‘homosexual activity’ was a term that was frequently though inaccurately used to refer to both activity between consenting adults and to the male abuse of male children. This was notable even from the initial press reports of incidents of abuse in Kincora published in 1980’s.  It is important that these statements are read and interpreted in that context.

We will therefore treat these statements with caution and will look forward to hearing full and detailed evidence of exactly what agencies of the State knew and when they knew it.”
