COLUM MARKS – STATEMENT OF FAMILY

Family Statement in relation to Hansard comments made on 19 April 2016 by members of the DUP/UUP issued on their behalf by KRW LAW LLP

The family of Colum Marks wish to distance themselves from comments reported in Hansard having being made in the UK Parliament on 19 April 2017.

The family wish to reiterate their support for both the Police Ombudsman’s investigation and that of the Public Prosecution Service.

On the direction of the Attorney General last year, on 22nd April 2016, the Director of the Public Prosecution Service, Barra McGrory QC, carried out an initial review of the papers into the death of Colum Marks and made the decision that a formal prosecutorial review should now take place.

Regardless of the views of Members of Parliament as reported in Hansard, new credible and tangible evidence has come to light to support the claims of the family around Colum’s death.

Colum was unarmed at the time of his death and clear opportunities existed to arrest him.

These were not taken by the then RUC.

This new evidence should be allowed to be investigated free from political interference.

The legal mechanisms open to all families should be free from political interference.
