12 Dec Post Office Horizon Scandal Victim receives Substantial interim damages
We act on behalf of a victim of the Post Office Horizon scandal. We are pleased to announce today that he has received a life changing interim payment 6 figure sum under the Horizons Convictions Redress Scheme. He had previously pleaded guilty on legal advice to 7 counts of False Accounting and received a suspended sentence together with a Compensation Order directing that he pay back a sum of money to the Post Office.
He contacted our office following widespread intensive media coverage highlighting the National scandal. Earlier this year we applied to the Department of Justice highlighting the case as yet another example of the worst miscarriage of justice in British legal history. In September our client finally received the news he’d been waiting on for 15 years when he got confirmation that his convictions were finally quashed. Following this breakthrough, we made our application to the Scheme for compensation.
Speaking on the successful outcome Solicitor Victoria Trainor from KRW LAW Criminal Dept said,
“Our client is a middle-aged Belfast man who has chosen to remain anonymous. It is depressing that a totally innocent man devoted to his work and family was fitted up for a crime he didn’t commit. It’s all the more galling that despite having his name cleared he is still conscious of the terrible stigma associated with this case. He should be able to hold his head up high but he can’t because even after all this time some of his family are still unaware what he’s been through.
No amount of money or apology will ever erase the stamp of the convicted felon from his forehead, courtesy of The Post Office. These toxic convictions have affected every strata of his life from preventing him progressing with any career and excluding him from getting certain jobs which sadly affected his mental health. On learning the news today this brave man humbly stated, “I literally do not know what to say other than thank you for everything you have done for me.” The Post Office hierarchy responsible for this injustice debacle should forever hang their heads in shame.”
