THE BIRMINGHAM PUB BOMBINGS 1974: KRW SUPPORT CALL FOR PUBLIC INQUIRY

KRW LAW LLP (KRW) represent ten of the families of victims of the Birmingham Pub Bombings 1974.

Following the resumed inquest into the pub bombings in 2019, KRW continued to support demands for a statutory inquiry being made by the families.

That demand for a judge-led investigation with the full engagement of the families  has now been endorsed by Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). That endorsement has now been taken up by the Home Secretary Priti Patel. The Home Secretary is considering establishing a public inquiry similar to that which investigated The Hillsborough Disaster 1989.

KRW welcome this initiative from the Home Secretary. This development follows comments during the 2019 General Election when the three main party leaders visited Birmingham and made commitments to consider a public inquiry into the bombings.

Whilst West Midlands Police continue to investigate following the evidence produced during the inquest, a statutory would, KRW argue, be the most effective method of investigating the bombings.
